The Illinois Dream Fund, a non-profit organization has planned to start scholarships up to $6,000 for the illegal immigrant students to pay the tuition fees at Illinois universities and colleges. The organization has raised around $500,000 through private donations for the students who were brought in their childhood, the group announced on 27 October, 2012. Illinois officials are expecting around thousands of young immigrants to apply for help for college through a state scholarship program funded by a private organization.
Wei-Ling Chiang, Taiwan's education minister travelled to California last week to attend a rare discussion on imbalance in trade with United States. While addressing the discussion he said that only 3,561 American-students get enrolled in Taiwan's universities while 24,000 Taiwanese students get enrolled in the universities of United States. The situation really needs to be addressed now, he added.
Trine University based in Indiana is planning to open a new campus in Arizona in early 2013. The announcement was made Centennial Park Plaza's press conference on 24 October, 2012 by the city officials and representatives of the Trine University. The branch campus will be established in Peoria, Arizona and will serve students with undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering, mechanical, bio-medical, electrical and civil courses. Students have already started enrolling for online courses provided by the university.
Udacity, the digital university raised $15 million in Series B, an investment round led by a venture capital firm, Andreessen Horowitz along with existing investors Steve Blank and Charles River Ventures. The organization offers free online courses in Mathematics, Computer Science, Programming and Entrepreneurship, and General Sciences to students who don't have finance, time, inclination or access to study in a traditional university setting.
