Online schools can be in for major development in Oregon. Policy-makers are thinking about a bill that could lift an enrolment cap and formulate it less difficult for students to register. Supporters of online schools packed a hearing room at the capitol on Friday.
In the last 2 yrs policy-makers have twisted over the role and scope of web-based education. Online school supporters were livid 2 yrs ago once the legislature chosen to cap enrolment. The notion was to give state edification officials time to sort out their strategies on this new edge of learning.
A measure this year may lift that cap and can permit students to sign up without authorization from their residence district. But those online communal schools would obtain a per-student state discount of just 80 % of what standard schools get.
The state's biggest teachers union, the OEA, says it hasn't taken a position on the bill. However the group is advocating an optional plan that would produce a single, centralized online public school.
